Virgin Gorda sailing - an unique experience
The British Virgin Islands are known for their fantastic sailing, with small bays, hidden coves, and secret hideaways scattered in between the 40 (mostly uninhabited) islands. The islands are located in the northeastern corner of the Caribbean, a 60-mile hop-skip-and-jump east of Puerto Rico. Most islands are small slivers of unpeopled land; the three main islands are Tortola, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke. Tortola is the central metropolis of the country and is home to Road Town, which is the B.V.I.'s capital and largest city. The British Virgin Islands is an archipelago of about 40 islands, but only three of them are of any significant size: Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke. Referred to as the sailing jewel of the Caribbean, the BVI attract a large sailing and yachting crowd. With so many islands, boating is the best way of exploring their sandy beaches, secluded coves and offshore hidden treasures. These small, sleepy islands have little desire for large crowds. They place an emphasis on luxurious hotels and fine dining, creating an exclusive but intimate atmosphere. Therefore, you will not find the mass tourism here like on other Caribbean islands, but what you will find, is peace, tranquility and time to enjoy the scenery.
